Washington Park ~ Denver, Colorado

Known by locals as "Wash Park", this unique and wonderful home community surrounds Washington Park, one of Denver's largest and most popular parks.

The area of Washington Park Denver was rural in nature back in 1886 yet population growth in Denver had warranted its first suburb, South Denver. Later, in the 1890s, the area was officially annexed into Denver and development of Wash Park homes increased with the creation of Washington Park in 1899.

Over the last years, popularity of the park and Wash Park homes has risen and increased real estate values because of its unique community and architecture, central park and outdoor space, and central location in Denver.

Washington Park in Denver is less than 10 minutes from downtown Denver, 15 minutes from the Denver Tech Center and offers quick access to Interstate 25, HWY 6, four stations on Denver's light rail system, and other main traffic streets.

The area of Wash Park CO is primarily defined between Cherry Creek to the North, Broadway St. to the West, University Blvd. to the East and I-25 to the South. Wash Park can even be further broken down into West Washington Park and Washington Park, divided by S. Downing St. Since 1972, Denver official city statistics have tracked these two areas separately. Both sides of Wash Park offer unique home opportunities and architectures as well as community groups and neighborhood organizations.

About the Park

Created in 1899, Washington Park is one of Denver's oldest and largest parks, covering 165 acres. The landscaped area includes two lakes, a Lilly pond, walking/running/bike paths and trails, a recreation center, boat house, plenty of open area as well as activities throughout the year. There are many walking paths/roads that lead into Washington Park from each of its four borders.

Washington Park in Denver is also one of the city's most popular parks. It was designed by German landscape architect Reihard Schuetze who also was involved in designing Denver's other largest parks, City Park and Cheeseman Park. His design included Smith Lake and Grasmere Lake, a Lilly pond with a feeding ditch lined with Russian willows and other trees. Other architects have added to Washington Park in Denver including a boat house that can be reserved for events and an evergreen grove to the North.

Over 54 flower gardens informally cover the landscape at Washington Park with one featured garden being a replica of Martha Washington's garden at Mt. Vernon. There are also two lakes within Washington Park, Smith Lake which offers paddle boat rentals and Grasmere Lake. 

The Washington Park recreation center is open year round and offers an indoor pool, weights area, and community programs. Other outdoor areas at the park include several trails with one that goes around the perimeter of the park, a lawn bowling/croquet field, tennis courts, and two playgrounds.

The S. Gaylord St. commercial enclave of Wash Park CO has such staples as the Washington Park Grill for dining, unique clothing stores, holistic healing, boutique dog/pet stores, and all within walking distance.

Alameda Ave. adds many of the commercial options available in Wash Park including a Gym, specialty kitchen stores, dining and coffee shops.
